And we mixed up the word motivate and inspired all of the time and I want to try separate the differences for you. You look it up in the dictionary the words motivate and the word inspires very, very different here is what motivation means. It means to provide a motive to induce insight, impel. I want to be very clear about this. Motivation is bribery, exploitation, manipulation and control.
What happens when we motivate people is we say I want to meet my targets therefore I will bribe you to meet your targets so then when you meet them, you will meet mine. It is an act of selfishness and greed. Our followers look at leaders who motivate and who believe in motivational techniques and say to them. I can see you coming. You are an old story leader I have been seen many of these before, this is not going to work with me, we are in a new time folks.
Our people are yearning for today is they want to be inspired, an inspiration is almost exactly be opposite of motivation. You look up inspiration it means from the Latin “spiritus” meaning spirits, to breath, inspire to breath it means to give life, the breath of god. Can you see the difference here? When we are inspired it is because is because we love something, we love the people we do it with and we love the reason for doing it. Love is what powers inspiration.
