Hi! Welcome to watch mojo.com. This is Leslie and welcome to our segment on celebrity connections. This week, we’re going to be talking about the Coppola Family.
The central member of this family of course is the famous director Francis Ford Coppola but it doesn’t end there.
Francis Ford Coppola was born to parents Carmine and Italia Coppola. His father was a composer, his mother was an actress so it started right at their roots then there was Francis Ford Coppola. Francis Ford Coppola has many siblings. One of them is named August. Welcome back to him in a minute. He’s just a professor of Comparative Literature and then of course his sister is Talia Shire. That’s right! Talia Shire is Francis Ford Coppola’s sister. You may remember her a—you may also remember that she was my sister in her brother’s maybe the Godfather, her brother pastor that actually really launched her career so let’s talk about Talia Shire for a minute.
Talia Shire is very interesting. She actually had two widely couple size marriages. The first one with tall guy named David Shire. Now, David Shire and that marriage ended in 70s but he did produced one child named Matthew. She later went on to marry a guy by the name of Jack Schwartzman. Jack Schwartzman is the father of Talia Shire’s two step children but he is also the father for more famous children notably Jason Schwartzman who you might know from Rashmore and of course Robert Schwartzman who’s—he is the front man of the band called Rooney and he was also in for example the Princess Diaries. He was the eleventh cast. If we move back over to her brother Francis Ford Coppola and his offsprings, Francis has a bunch of kids. One of them is named Gian-Carlo who unfortunately past away in a boating accident in 1986 although an interesting tribute about Gian-Carlo Coppola is that his father’s friend George Lucas paid tribute to him by naming a speed racer in the—Gian after him.
Another interesting thing about Francis Ford Coppola of course is that his daughter is Sofia Coppola. Now, Sofia Coppola along with her brother Roman, another one of friends’ sports children started of in the Godfather movies. They had deep parts. Sofia Coppola was actually the baby boy in the first Godfather movie at India. In the christening, that’s little baby Sofia Coppola. And Sofia Coppola started her real, her first starring role was in The Godfather Part III where she brutally massacred the role of Mary Corleone. The only interesting part about this is that Mary Corleone, well Mary is the name of Francis Ford Coppola’s other daughter who is not an actress. So, are you following me so far?
She played Mary which is actually her sister’s name. She butchered the role, she left the public eye for a while and then reemerged to become a really famous director and she actually became the third member of her family to win an Oscar.
