Audra: The queen of lean but as just tough as nails trainer has a softer side when it comes to helping people achieve their goals, we caught up with the Biggest Losers Jillian Michaels at a photo shoot for the February Cover of Ladies’ Home Journal.
A glistening sunny day in California’s made even brighter by Jillian Michaels smile as she strikes her best Cover Girl Post. It’s a privilege to be a cover girl. It’s a little uncomfortable I’m not used to it but it does sort of feel some days like I woke up in someone else’s life. You know what I mean 5 years ago I own the gym and I was quite happy training soccer moms.
So it’s very interesting especially when you never planned for your life to go in this direction. So it’s glamorous and it’s fun but I definitely feel a little awkward.
Audra: She’s the spitfire trainer on NBC’s hit show the Biggest Loser and the audience loves her.
But despite for 2 inch trainer getting fit isn’t looking cute in your little back dress.
Jillian: A healthy body is a disease free body that’s what I care about but it’s about self worth and self esteem and feeling strong, feeling empowered and the end result of being fit is that you’re a potent person in other areas of your life and that’s what matters.
Audra: Jillian’s down to earth. She’s also very clear about her message to all women.
Jillian: You got to prioritize your life so that you’re number one. Perfect is boring, no one is really perfect it’s all a lie. It’s hours upon hours of makeup and there’s like horse hair in here somewhere that I can pull out for you. Beauty is on the inside, keep that in mind.
Audra: Americas perception of Jillian Michaels as fitness guru’s very different from the way she sees herself.
Jillian: I was an overweight teenager. I was a bit of a tragedy as a young teen and it just goes to show you that you can grow into anything that you want to be and I struggled with weight. I still do but I struggle with exercise everyday. I hate it. You know every single night I have 200 calories of dark chocolate.
Audra: The reluctant start gets a bit edgier on the new season of Biggest Loser.
Jillian: I don’t have 5 years. I don’t have 5 months to change someone’s life. I need to create an epiphany for them immediately but for me it’s a life or death intervention. I had a woman that was 500 pounds. She could be going home in 5 days soon to die. Let’s be honest so if I don’t create awareness for her that she is capable and that everything she has believed about herself up until now is not true then she could die and I don’t care what I have to do if I have to scream and yell and curse and square and the bottom line is I got her to do it.
She broke every record for a woman on the Biggest Loser campus and she never quit again.
Audra: Of course we couldn’t pass up the chance to ask Jillian about what music keeps her going.
Jillian: Music by the New Pronographers, Homecoming by Hey Monday, okay, let’s see what else Cosmic Love by Florence and the Machine this one is embarrassing I was just going to admit it, What you say by Jason Derulo. I can be cheesy. I’m part of the fact that the Biggest Loser has become iconic and I am very fortunate to be a part of that.
I’m really more focused on the holistic approach towards health. I am more focused on helping people achieve their dreams and showing America that it’s never been about the crunch or the pushup. You know I’m great at fitness because I use it so effectively but it’s so much more and I feel like people aren’t seeing 90% of what’s really going on and why things are the way they are and I would like to branch out so fingers crossed.
Audra: She’s doing big things Jillian is already branching out. Filming is under way on her new show Losing it with Jillian and on a totally different note Jillian says the two things that she wish she should have done differently at 20 is sunscreen and not eat diet foods. You can read more about Jillian in a February issue of Ladies’ Home Journal which is on news stands now.
