Female Speaker: Since 2006 Audi is been working with other auto makers on a project called Travolution. The purpose is to make urban driving even more efficient and to optimize the flow of traffic. Using wireless LAN and UMTS links the vehicle is able to communicate for instance with traffic lights. A driver receives a signal for example of how long it will take for a red light turn green that's being able to gear the time to start off again and maybe even to shutoff the engine. What's more information is shown on the screen as the best speed advisable to make all the lights. The advantages are clear.

Michael Dick: We were able to reduce CO2 emissions in the city by up to 15% as far as the leaders are few we can say that's quite a lot. Consider the fact that in Germany there about 15 million cars on the road, 15% of them in the city. By reducing the amount of fuel these cars use, we can save 100's of millions of liters of fuel. If we look even further into the future for instance at electric cars their numbers will be growing more and more over the next 10, 15 to 20 years. That's where it will be very interesting especially to develop extended cruse ranges since, urban traffic will flow much more smoothly then.

Female Speaker: Another feature of Travolution is being able to pay on-line for parking, cars communicate directly with parking systems no more taking a ticket and paying as you leave. Just conform the charge by press of the button via the cars multimedia interface MMI. Your account or credit card is debited the amount and the gate opens up and let's you pass. Actually, there is nothing standing in the way putting the system in the series production.

Michael Dick: We began back in 2006 and are now already in the second phase of the project. In 2008, we agreed to expand this system the city of Ingolstadt. Our vision is to bring Travolution into series production relatively soon to cover the greatest possible area. To do so we need the cooperation of Germany's big cities Frankfurt for instance has already announced it's interest. The vehicle technology is already to go and there is no problem in implementing Travolution quite soon.

Female Speaker: Quite soon, drives could look forward to less frustration better traffic flow and lower fuel economy in urban areas. Sooner or later, they will notice the results of the pumps where the system is also designed of course to allow you to refuel on-line at the press of a button.
