A short drive from Mount Pleasant is Grant Wood’s American Gothic House in Eldon, Iowa. Fascinated by its compact design and gothic window, in 1930 he sketched the house which eventually would become one of America’s most popular and recognized paintings of Grant Wood which hangs in Eldon City Hall.
