Police have identified the suspected gunman in Monday’s shooting near the Texas A&M University campus. Austin’s KTBC explains what happened.

“Constable Brian Bachma,n was serving papers to 35 year old Thomas Alton Caffall, III. papers to notify him of an eviction hearing. Caffall allegedly opened fire killing Bachmann.”

And according to that report, Caffall kep police away for almost half an hour before police officers at College Station shot him. In all, three, including Constable Bachmann and Caffall, are dead. While police haven’t made a motive official, KVUE reports , while the community is shaken, students are pulling together and holding a prayer vigil.

“The Aggie body is extremely strong, and we rally behind things. And this will be another event where the Aggie body and the Aggie spirit is gonna show.”

The suspect’s family released a statement, telling the Associated Press they are “distraught by the havoc” Caffall caused. According to reporting from The Huffington Post, Caffall’s mother says her son was having mental “difficulties.” The Huffington Post quotes her as saying,

“The minute I saw the TV I knew it was him ... I’ve been that worried about him.”

According to his Facebook page , Caffall is listed as divorced.

His profiles feature rifles like these, and in his “About” section he describes himself as “ ...pulling a cross between Forrest Gump and Jack Kerouac (without the drugs).”

Also killed, a 43-year-old civilian who was identified late Monday as bystander Chris Northcliff. According to Reuters , four others were injured in the shooting.
