Tech Review - OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Gold Memory

Hello again, my name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today looking OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Gold Memory, the speed on this memory is 400 megahertz DDR PC 3200 and has a CAS of 2 with a complete memory timing of 222 and 5. Now, what does DDR and CAS mean? DDR stands for Double Data Rate and that means it doubles the bandwidth of the memory by transferring data twice as fast on both the rising and the falling of the clock cycle. CAS stands for Column Access Select or Column Access Strobe and that essentially means the number of cycles for the memory to get information and then process that information.

Also keep in mind that the lower CAS is much better there are higher CAS for example a CAS of two will result in better memory performance and 2.5 or 3. So try and keep the CAS as low as possible when over clocking. This memory is also dual channel which means better overall memory bandwidth resulting in superior performance but it in order to benefit from this technology you will need a heavy dual channel motherboard none dual channel motherboards do not have 240 independence 64 bit memory controllers but, dual channel boards do which means they have a 128 bit memory interface .

Now this memory will work in a non dual channel motherboard but the overall performance will be much less at the same megahertz. This 184 pin DIMM on buffered memory is available in a dual channel kit which is what I have here two sticks of 512 megabytes each but it’s also available singly in 512 megabyte modules. Now as I mentioned earlier the memory timing and its default of 400 megahertz DDR is 222 and 5. Now that’s fast but, if your increase the voltage on this memory it will show you in the performance results in just a second you can get some amazing over clocking results out of this memory.

Now speaking of voltage the voltage on this memory is 2.8 but there’s an extended voltage protection you can go all the way up to around 3 volts without voiding the OCZ ZED lifetime warranty. This memory also comes with gold layered copper heat spreaders and this helps dissipate the heat.

The OCZ ZED set goals series of memory is intended for gamers because of its fantastic performance. Now as you saw it from benchmark results I was able to push this memory all the way up to 260 megahertz or 520 megahertz DDR and a memory timing of 222 and 5 but only at 3.4 volts so if you’re willing to push this memory beyond it’s rated and warranty 3 volts you able to get some fantastic results still maintaining that wicked blistering fast memory timing of 222 and 5.

Now remember when you are over clocking and you’re pushing the voltage beyond 3 you really want to add some active cooling on the memory. Overall this is a kick ass product.
