(Image source: The New York Times )     BY ZACH TOOMBS     The main rebel coalition in Syria has pulled out of key peace talks — citing recent attacks by Bashar al Assad’s regime in Aleppo as the cause for the boycott.   The Syrian civil war has been waged for almost two years now — with casualty estimations around 70,000 since President Assad’s violent crackdown on protesters led to an all out rebellion. [Video: Sky News ]   The Syrian National Coalition rebel group had been scheduled to take part in the Friends of Syria talks with Russia and the U.S. Now, it says it’s not happy with what it sees as a lack of condemnation for Assad’s government. [Video: CBS ]   In a statement reported by the BBC , the rebel group says:   “Hundreds of civilians have been killed by Scud missile strikes. Aleppo, the city and the civilisation, is being destroyed systematically … The Russian leadership especially bears moral and political responsibility for supplying the regime with weapons...”   But the rebel faction also took a step that could help bring the conflict toward its end — responding to international calls to add more structure to its organization. Al Jazeera reports.   “The Syrian National Coalition, which has been meeting in Cairo has put the ball firmly in the court of the international community. It says its members have reached an agreement on forming a government to rule rebel-held areas.”   That government would oversee the Syrian territory held by rebel forces. As is, that includes much of the country’s northern regions and areas outside major cities.
