Hi! I’m David Epstein. Welcome back to my vegetable garden and I have just completed doing the tomatoes, the peppers, some cucumbers. I’ve got some landscape fabric. I want to just give you a little hint.
Now, I had a lot of trouble with weeds and to be honest I’m kind of busy. I don’t have time to come out to the vegetable garden every single week and weed or every few days and weed. So, I’ve put down this weed fabric and we’ve talked about this before we’ve actually used it in our border around the edge of the house. And basically, this is a landscape fabric. It stops things from growing.
So, what we’ve done is we’ve carefully put this down first and then we cut through the landscape fabric. And we planted our tomatoes and our peppers, and other great vegetables right through the landscape fabric. This will stop the weeds from coming out around the landscape fabric and allow the plants to grow without the competition from the weeds.
We also secure the landscape fabric down so it doesn’t blow away with this great landscape fabric staples. Just push them right into the soil and they secure the landscape fabric. The other thing you might want to do is poke a couple of holes around in the fabric if you have low spots where the water can collect and it’s that easy.
Now, I also want you to notice behind me is an area where we have not put any fabric down. That’s because that’s my area where I’m growing things from seed. So, it’s just a lot easier to kind of have to weed that area and as I harvest my lettuce, some plant and other seeds, I can do that without having to go through the fabric. But the areas where I’ve started from plants, the fabric is going to work great. It’s going to save me a lot of time, things will be healthier. And I think this is going to make my life just a little bit easier and hopefully it made yours easier as well.
