Style Tricks to Make You Look Slimmer
Rhiannon Ally: And while diet and exercise are the tried and true slim down combination there are definitely some head turning tricks that will bring you compliments. Yahoo! Shine Bikini 101 contributor, Liz Brody, is here to show us how we can all use a little illusion to make us appear a few pounds slimmer and that’s what we like to hear; nice, easy fixes.
Ms. Liz Brody: Nice, easy fixes.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. So, let us talk first of all, you actually brought a photo that we are going to share. What exactly are we seeing here?
Ms. Liz Brody: I love this image because it shows how easily you can trick the eye to make the same size line look longer or shorter and that’s what dressing can do. It can create that illusion that your body is way taller and skinnier than it actually is.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. So, let us talk about your tips and tricks.
Ms. Liz Brody: Yeah.
Rhiannon Ally: First of all, let us start with the shoes.
Ms. Liz Brody: The shoes. So, you want to nice, tapered ending and so, you want pointy toe versus round toe. Definitely, a little spiky heel versus a clunky heel and you want a pump versus a strappy shoe because the straps cut off your line and that is what we are going to keep talking about.
Rhiannon Ally: And what about color of your shoes as well, is that is important too?
Ms. Liz Brody: Yes. Well, actually you can do whatever color you want but you want your legs to be the same color. So, if you are going do a fun color, try to get your hose to match.
Rhiannon Ally: That will just make your legs look that much longer.
Ms. Liz Brody: That is right.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. So, what about self tanner here?
Ms. Liz Brody: Self tanner is one of the greatest slimming tricks. It gives your legs a little shading and I like the kind that you build the tan because you can control the color a little better.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. So, what about skirts? I thought every skirt was kind of the same but no.
Ms. Liz Brody: No. Actually I love these bubble skirts and the whirly skirts that are in right now but they are not great because they kind of create a lot of chaos where you might not want it. So, a pencil skirt is a lot better or like an A-line that kind of fits you nice and slimly.
Rhiannon Ally: So, if you are very hippy, that is going to make you appear maybe not so curvy.
Ms. Liz Brody: Exactly.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. So, what about pants?
Ms. Liz Brody: Pants, we want to do a nice long thin line also, so no pockets, no doodads, no stitching, no tricked out pants. And you want the zipper on the side.
Rhiannon Ally: Why do you want the zipper on the side?
Ms. Liz Brody: Because again, that is creating a nice flat line in the front and you do not want anything puffing out.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay. So, whether you are in pants or skirt, you are feeling a little bloated, what should you do?
Ms. Liz Brody: Weirdly enough, you should drink more water. I know that is sort of counterintuitive but it flashes out the sodium and definitely, do not chew gum or drink carbonated sodas, like that is kind of what we all want to do because we try not to eat. But that gives you gas and it just makes things a lot worse.
Rhiannon Ally: What about these bright V-necks here?
Ms. Liz Brody: It is such an easy fix. A V-line is a great style for almost any woman. And you do not have to do sort of nose-diving cleavage, you can just do a nice simple line but it draws the eye right towards your waist.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay and its still summer, so everyone still wants to find a flattering bikini or swimsuit.
Ms. Liz Brody: I know. And you can wear a bikini but I hate to be boring but actually, the slimiest suit is actually a one piece, black, with a nice kind of well constructed top. Halter top is also a very good. And weirdly, you kind of want to cover your thighs but a high cut is better. It is more slimming and just avoid like metallic materials which highlight the bumps and horizontal stripes is kind a suicide. But if you love something, wear it because 99% of looking good is feeling great about it, right?
Rhiannon Ally: How you feel. Yes, that is so true. Thank you so much Liz, all great tips. We know black is always a good choice.
