Dortmund were left fuming after a 36th-minute incident when defender Marcel Schmelzer was judged to have stopped Bas Dost's goalbound shot with his hands. Schmelzer was dismissed and Diego converted the penalty to make it 1-1 but replays showed the ball hit the Dortmund leftback's knee rather than his hand. Dost decided the match with a 73rd-minute breakaway goal. Earlier a Marco Reus free-kick had got the champions going and they dominated the opening half until the incident involving Schmelzer swung the momentum in the visitors favour. Diego provided for his Brazilian compatriot Naldo after scoring his own goal and while Dortmund drew level with a Jakub Blaszczykowski penalty 16 minutes into the second half, Dost settled the meeting when he beat the hosts' goal keeper Roman Weidenfeller. The result leaves Dortmund third on the ladder, still well behind leaders Bayern Munich, with Wolfsburg rising to 13th.
