Audra Lowe: Where everybody is looking forward to the flowers blooming, the weather warming up, and all the other good things that come along with spring, but there's one thing we're not looking forward to so much, spring cleaning.

Laura Fenton is here though, she is a contributing editor of shelterpop.com and Laura has got some tips to make the dreadful process quick, pain free, easy, even involve the kids, right, Laura?

Laura Fenton: Absolutely

Audra Lowe: Good to have you here, anybody that makes cleaning easier is a friend of mine; I am staying close to you.

Laura Fenton: Well, there are always times when we need to clean up in a hurry, and at shelter pop we know that the secret to being prepared for speed cleaning is to have all the tools you need on hand for those times when you do need to.

Audra Lowe: So what are some of the main things you have to have right off the bat to make it easier?

Laura Fenton: Well, any cleaning probably will tell you that a caddie is a great tool to have. It'll help you tow your supplies from room to room and save you time as you go.

Audra Lowe: Okay, okay

Laura Fenton: Another thing that we love are micro fiber cloths, they're better than a regular rags at picking up dust and dirt, and if you have a whole bunch of them, you don't have to worry about rinsing them out or folding them over when they get dirty, you can just replace them and use a fresh one.

Audra Lowe: I also like the pre moistened wipes too, because those will get the kids involved, right?

Laura Fenton: Yes, it will. That is one of the great advantages of pre moistened wipes, they are not good for deep cleaning, they may be not eco friendly, but man, if you are in a hurry, this is a lifesaver.

Audra Lowe: Right

Laura Fenton: And kids can do it, you don't have to worry about them handling chemicals or cleaning products, it's safe for them and easy.

Audra Lowe: I know that you normally don't recommend feather dusters, but this time around you say, yeah, get a real one

Laura Fenton: Well, the problem with feather dusters is they just put the dust back into the air. But if you are speed cleaning, go for it, it's the fastest way to clean a surface especially when it's got a collection of objects or tchotchkes on it.

Audra Lowe: Now let's talk about cleaning the clutter out too; you got the bag here for a reason, right?

Laura Fenton: Right, well, this is one of our favorite secrets at shelter pop. Have a stash of empty shopping bags either reusable shopping bags or just like paper ones you get from the department store. If you need to clean up in a hurry, say, like your mother-in-law is coming over, take a bag; fill it with the clutter from each room. Keep each room in its own bag, and then bring them all and stash them in a spare bedroom or a closet until your guests have left, and you have time to deal with the mess.

Audra Lowe: Not a bad idea. It kind of looks cute, so the kids will definitely help out too. When you are speed cleaning though, you really have to focus on the rooms that the guests are going to see, and then you decide to close the doors to the ones that they're not going to be seeing.

Laura Fenton: Absolutely, that's really the key here, is focusing your efforts. Maybe you're not going to vacuum the rug in the living room, but you're definitely going to get out the Windex, and clean the smudges off of the coffee table.

Audra Lowe: So the visible surfaces; make sure to clean those first too. As we always say, don't worry about vacuuming the living room floor; clean the visible surfaces that they're going to notice right off the bat, right?

Laura Fenton: Right, in worst case scenario, I mean, you just want to get rid of the big mess

Audra Lowe: Yeah
