(Image source: Voice Of America ) BY ELISA LOPEZ AGUADO   An initial investigation into the cyber attack that damaged 32,000 computers and servers in South Korea Wednesday claims to have traced the attack to a Chinese IP address.   The Korea Communications Commission said Thursday the Chinese IP created malicious code that damaged the servers of eight organizations — three banks, two insurance companies and three broadcasters. (video via AlJazeera )   CNN reports suspicion falls on North Korea since the country... “has recently renewed threats to go to war with the South amid rising tensions over Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons and missile testing.” Despite the implied accusations, a writer for USA Today said... “It’s too early to assign blame to China or North Korea, since Internet addresses can easily be manipulated.”   CBS reports that even if the cyber attack didn’t affect the government or military, it has intensified the debate on the security and vulnerability of South Korea’s Internet.   The Washington Post reports South Korea might not be the only country affected. “The website of the U.S. based Committee for Human Rights in North Korea also was hacked.” The website executive director has stated “...some of its reports on satellite imagery of North Korean prison camps and policy recommendations to the U.S. government have been deleted from the site.”   After what authorities in Seoul report is (quote) “the biggest cyberattack on South Korean computers since 2011” , only one of the six cyber attack targets is currently operating normally.
