Good afternoon Gooey Louie.
There’s nothing in here but three butter cakes and gooey butter cookies.
This is a good time to start your own business or start something.
Yeah, I love that stuff.
When we came to do Gooey Louie, we really wanted to make a, you know, from scratch all natural cakes so we make our own cake mix here with, you know, all the regular ingredients and not, you know, just throw boxes of Duncan Hines in there or something and we really try and take the extra time to do something that’s from scratch.
I think that our cake ‘Sorbato’ is close to the home recipe making them at home as you’re going to get.
The idea when we started this part time is like a lot of people we’ve been working for other people and decided we have this, you know, unique idea. I used to make these cakes with my grandmother and my mom and we wanted to take it and bring it to market because a lot of the cakes didn’t taste like if we went to the grocery store like what you made at home.
So, we wanted to do these from scratch cakes and we’re baking in a friend’s restaurant and, you know, we can only do that for so long. We wanted to see if it was a viable business first. And once you start jumping in you dedicate so much time. You have to decide okay that we’re not going to do, this as a not worthwhile. And if we are going to do it, we have to go full time and find our own kitchen.
We have to make the commitment and just decide that we needed to take a rest for it to continue.
The quality has to be there but then you do have to have an identity and you have to try to do something that is memorable to people whether it’s a catching name or a look.
For Gooey Louie, I worked in graphic design, in marketing so just kind of a jack of all trades of those jobs. And here, I don’t really divert too much not even if this business is very different. I try to just stick with the things that I am better at or where my strengths lie so even though we’re baking gooey butter cakes and the gooey butter cakes are important and I help with the gooey butter cakes, what I really do is focus on the packaging and promoting Gooey Louie and getting a set up in the right way for the public events.
Customers support our business but we also support their efforts. So, what we’ve done is we’ve attended all of our area neighborhood association meetings and welcomed people that come by the shop. We’ve provided cakes and, you know, gotten up and introduced ourselves and tell people exactly what it is that that we do and what’s different about our cakes and that really help get the ball rolling here because I think it all starts with your neighborhood.
We’re very much special to the bakery and no one in town is really selling only gooey butter cakes like we are, it’s very specialized, there’s nothing in here but do gooey butter cakes and gooey butter cookies so we didn’t really have any other business owners that could advise us too much on that so we had really learned from experience.
Okay, you guys have a great day!
What special to baking is this is a little challenging but also, it can work to your advantage.
