Malik Shaheed: Hey, everyone. This is Malik Shaheed for watchmojo.com and today, you’re going to meet Jason Derulo who is an actor, singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer, let’s shift to the interview now.

You are a songwriter; you’re a producer, and an artist. Tell us the importance of being a triple threat in this game.

Jason Derulo: There are people that are not triple threats that do offer themselves but I think it definitely gives you an edge especially in these days and age because when you’re dependent on other people to write a song for you, you’re at their discretion. I mean, there’s nothing you can do if someone doesn’t give you a hot song. But, I mean, if you can write your own hot material then, it’s always up to you. It doesn’t mean you’re really only as good as your last song.

Malik Shaheed: Let’s talk about your album, you’re self-entitled album. How do you describe the vibe of the album?

Jason Derulo: The album is a mixture of genres. It’s a direct representation of who I am musically and personally. I love rock music. I love country. I love Euro dance. I love electro. I love all these different kinds of music. I infused all of these, formulated these new pop sound.

Malik Shaheed: Let’s talk about your first single, What You Say. Tell us what the idea that came about for that song.

Jason Derulo: Basically, my brother cheated on his girlfriend and he was begging for a love back. I’ve seen that and I was really inspired by it and I was like, “Wow! This is what people go through all the time”. Everybody is dealt with infidelity in one way or another whether it be with themselves or somebody close to them. So I wrote the song and it just really just happened to be magical.

Malik Shaheed: When you’re in studio, did you know, and feel the magic I know that this is going to be a mega hit.

Jason Derulo: It was a definitely a spine-tingler. You can really never know what other people are going to think. I know that people around me were foot and know about it and they loved that as well so, I was excited to see that and when the world loved it that was the ultimate price.

Malik Shaheed: Let’s talk about your second single “In my Head”. Tell us about how the idea for that song came about.

Jason Derulo: From all the amazing women around the world. When you meet somebody for the first time and you’re trying to see this person, a lot of times you have different fantasies go through your head like what it would be like to be with this person. It’s basically the lust at the beginning. When you’re leaving somebody, it has nothing to do with love. A lot of people get that line misconstrued. “Everybody’s looking for love, ain’t that the reason you’re in this club”. When I say love, it’s not actual love. It’s more…sex. “In my Head”, it was a bust in my second album that helped me to make history. I’m the first male artist in history to have his first two singles go number one which is amazing.

Malik Shaheed: Do you feel blessed knowing all the successes that you had at this part of your career.

Jason Derulo: Absolutely man! I’m blessed to have the most amazing fans in the world. They’ve supported me from the beginning and I want to thank all the haters out there too because without you, none’s fine.
