Most of us have two kidneys they are about the size of our fist, they are located on either side of our body about a midway down and the kidneys have one simple but very important purpose and that is to filter our blood, about 50 gallons of blood are filtered through the kidneys every single day. And we know the product of our kidney function as urine.
What are the signs & symptoms of kidney damage?
Well, it's very unusual for kidney damage to get to the extent where a patient feels signs or symptoms because of the kidney damage. And the reason is that kidney damage actually occurs mostly because of other medical conditions. Either you have congenital kidney problems where you are born with some issues, perhaps a misshapen kidney, one kidney, what we have a horseshoe kidney where they're both joined or you might have chronic medical conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes which are incidentally the two main reasons we have so many people who need to go into dialysis centers to get their blood cleaned because their kidney damages so severe that their kidneys can't function by themselves any more. Or you have another family condition like chronic kidney stones where your body has a certain predisposition not to process calcium and some of the other minerals properly so that your body creates kidney stones as a genetic defect.
