Shots fired in a small Oakland, California religious college left seven dead and at least three injured. Multiple news organizations are reporting a man stood up in a classroom Monday morning and opened fire, hitting at least ten students.


KGO has more.

“A suspect was arrested in Alameda at the South Shore Center, at least a person has been detained there and turned over to Oakland Police.”

And KRON adds
“...Police are not ruling out the possibility for more suspects but were told there was just one gunman.”

Details on the suspect are still sketchy.  As of late afternoon, West Coast time,  The Los Angeles Times vaguely reports the suspected shooter is  “...an Asian man with a heavy build and wearing khaki clothing.”

And The Oakland Tribune reports   “Pastor Jong Kim, who founded the school about 10 years ago, said the shooter had previously been a nursing student at Oikos but was no longer enrolled. He was unsure whether the shooter had been expelled or dropped out voluntarily.”

The scene at Oikos was a scary one, with students fleeing the building in a panic... KTVU has more.


“...Running rather quickly their arms overhead, getting into the vehicle for their own personal safety...this is standard procedure in a shooting situation as you try to protect the students that were inside but also make sure they are not armed as well.”

The San Francisco Chronicle paints the same picture , saying …

“Terrified students ran from the building in the chaotic moments afterward, as police searched the building for the shooter and rescued students, who took cover and hid inside. SWAT units smashed glass windows with sledgehammers to reach the huddling students and faculty.”
