Erik: How are your personal priorities changing as you get older?
Shaheen: Yeah, you know, it’s interesting because when you catch up with people, they ask, what are you up to and what’s going on? And I’ve realized that in the last year, year and a half, my life has kind of solidified around 3 things, distinctly around 3 things. And it’s, you know, it’s my work, it’s my personal life which is, you know, my family, my girlfriend and my friends, and then it’s, you know, kind of what I’ve been doing with this charity. And so those are really my priorities and the other day, my buddy convinced me I needed a will, so I went and sat down with a lawyer and starting drawing up my will. Just in case I get hit by a bus after I walk out of here. And the really—the fun thing about a will is that it crystallizes your priorities, immediately. Because you have to write them down, you have to legally delineate them and so I wanted it to be a productive meeting so I sat down and I scratched out on one side of—two sides of a piece of paper, a little note pad, what I wanted and it was funny because it took me about 5 minutes to figure out: Okay, who matters to me in what order do they matter to me, like what are the things that matter to me about them that I want, you know, to happen should something happen to me. And it was really—it was sort of satisfying to just think about how it wasn’t complicated, it was very easy. It was like, these are the things that matter to me in this order.
