Hello! And welcome to this episode of Sass N Style with your host Amy Salinger. I got to mention it again, Twitter, sign up to follow me, username, SassNStyle. Oh! Very thoughtful. In this episode, we're talking about summer layers. It maybe overwhelmingly hot, but that doesn't mean you can't sass up your outfit with a few fun and funky layers. So let's go and try out some summer layers.
So the most popular layer this summer, is the summer scarfs. People love scarf, my Sass N Style video about how to tie scarves, is my most popular video by thousands of views. So of course, why not talk about the summer scarf. Now the truth is, I'm not going to get too crazy.
It's a scarf, it's summer time you're going to be suffocating if we do any fancy ties around your neck. So, what's the most simple thing to do? Roll it over your shoulder, look at the ease of how this has made this outfit, kind of come alive with just a scarf.
The other fun thing about the scarf is that if it's the right scarf, you can widen it out, wrap it around your shoulders and roll it over. Again, not brain surgery, but as it gets chillier as the night goes on, your scarf changes to match the temperature.
I love the summer vest. Now I use the word summer, but obviously a vest is year around. What makes it a summer piece? Its lighter, not only lighter in color, but also lighter in weight. This is actually made out of linen, which is an amazing material for the summer, because it's breathable. So it's perfect for layering, linen layering. It's pretty easy one to remember.
This particular vest is cropped, which I think again, plays up the whole fun easy going bohemian effective summer. I also adore the facts that there is this great detail of beading on the vest. Just because you're wearing less clothing, doesn't mean it doesn't still have to be interesting. It has to be interesting, it makes your whole outfit fun, and standout from the rest of the crowd. So light, airy, breezy, bohemian, earthy, all I could have just to describe the summer, and to describe the wardrobe that you're going to rock during it.
So I know we're just talking about the cropped summer vest. Well, now, I have the jean vest, that's why I'm going to talk about vest twice, why, because it's probably the greatest layering piece for the summer, because your arms are bare and open to the air and that wonderful crisp summer air can hit them, but it's still changing up the look of your outfit and adding another layer. Switch on to the demand channel of what's going on. This was actually a jean jacket that I own that I thought was too tight. The jean vest were big for that season, and so I was like, I really want one, I don't want to spend the money. What can I do?
Ah, lo and behold, a pair of scissors. I cut off the sleeves, it wasn't exactly the most difficult thing that I have ever done. I cut along the straight edge, and boom, I had my brand new jean jacket for the season. It kind of have that rocker chic added to it. I won't necessarily pair it up with jeans like I have it on right now, but the fun thing is, you could something even more sophisticated on the bottom, and by pairing it with this more rocker chic type of vest, you're funking out the entire look from top to bottom. I love my jean vest.
So for all of you folks, who actually have to go to an office this summer, I have the perfect layer for you. I'm sure you already know it, because it's the cardigan. It's perfect for any season, it's perfect for any profession, any person, any age, it is essentially the perfect piece. Now what makes it a great summer layering piece, is the breathability. It's the small holes, so that the air can actually go through it. This was actually a crochet version, which is a perfect summer layering piece. I always ask myself, why is it that offices make it ridiculously cold inside? Well, it's ridiculously hot outside, you have to buy a breathable cardigan folks.
So for our final summer layering piece, we have the poncho. I know you usually think about it for rain, or the neck poncho, because it's freezing out. No, no, no folks, we're talking light we're talking airy, we're talking summer poncho. I've got this thing a few years ago, and the truth is, I've still not seen anybody with anything like it, and you know I love that. But, here I am introducing it to the entire Sass N Style audience, so I'm sure, I might run into a few people with the summer poncho after I air this fabulous episode.
What is so great about it? A couple of different things. First off, my arms are out, so it's breathable, yet again, I can get all the air I want enter into this thing. What's the other great thing? It's like a blanket. I'm literally wrapped in it, as it gets chillier, I stay nice and warm, and just like any other outside layer, you want it to be fun, you want it to be fabulous, you want it to stand out. That's exactly what this poncho does, and it makes me super fashionable.
