Paul Ryan’s first message as Mitt Romney’s right-hand man? My guy is better than yours. Here’s Wolf Blitzer on CNN .

“Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committee Chairman, telling the country that President Obama has a record of failure and that Mitt Romney has what it takes to unite and uplift America.”

In his speech, Mr. Ryan said Mr. Obama passed every item on his agenda in the first two years of his presidency, but that didn’t make things better. C-SPAN has the speech .

“This is the worst economic recovery in 70 years. Unemployment has been above 8 percent for more than three years. The longest run since the Great Depression.”

But is it just tough talk? Or part of a larger political plan? Politico’s Maggie Haberman weighs in .

“He blasts President Obama strongly, accusing him of taking the nation on the wrong course. This has been the bet from conservatives, that picking Ryan will send a message that Romney understands the significance of the challenges facing the nation.”

Fox News says Mr. Ryan’s message sets the tone for the rest of the campaign.

“ … break-out speech as running mate signaled he'll be playing offense for Romney quite frequently. … Ryan accused the Obama team of being ‘more worried about their next election than they are about the next generation.’ He blamed Obama's ‘misguided policies’ for the economic rut the country's been stuck in.”

During Mr. Ryan’s speech, the CBC reports Mr. Obama’s campaign started sending press releases calling Ryan a radical.

“ … we know what Paul Ryan stands for. The real trick here is for him to define himself before the Obama campaign can do it.”

According to CBS , the Obama camp released a video Saturday dubbing the Romney-Ryan ticket as, quote, “The Go-Back Team.”
