Returning Home Post Catheter Ablation
So the post-procedure care really depends on what we do. Thanks to the advancement in electro physiology and what we can do to cure abnormal rhythm, more often than not is an outpatient procedure, and we go into the vein just like how we start IV in the arm. We start an IV in the groin wing area, everything is done in that access, and when everything is out, and usually there is not much trauma the body has to recover from, so therefore often this type of procedure is an outpatient procedure.
We watch the patient for about three or four hours afterwards, for sedation to wear off, make sure the access looks good, and go home the same day. If there’s certainly, there are procedures where it’s more complex, involves sometimes going to the other side of the heart, thinning out the blood, and certainly those type of procedures would at least require overnight stay to make sure everything looks good, the groin access looks good, heart function looks good.
