Bambu is living proof that you can survive, even when the odds are stacked against you. She is a one-month-old Pudu deer - the smallest species of their kind. They're also rare. Pudu's are endangered, facing the threat of deforestation and illegal hunting. And when Bambu was just a week old, rescuers found her abandoned on the outskirts of Concepcion, Chile. But San Sebastian University gave her a new home and renewed hope. And veterinarian Miguel Mancilla said there's a lot Bambu can teach them. SOUNDBITE: Dr. Miguel Mancilla, veterinarian, San Sebastian University, saying (Spanish): "We have been getting to know the species better, but in many ways it is still an enigma. The diseases are not very well known - there are very few reports about diseases that they are susceptible to. Most of the knowledge that exists about animals are from those born in captivity. Very little is known about the wild animals." Much is being done to save the unique species in the wild, which can be found in the forests of Chile and Argentina.
