Many of the participants wore fancy dress with a vampire, the cartoon character Pink Panther and others among the swimmers. The ice-cold bath in Jablonki in the south-east of the country, is the biggest event of this type in Poland. Every swimmer has got their own reasons for taking part. Some do it for health, some treat it as a part of rehabilitation. Everybody stressed though that the most important part of swimming in cold water is a proper warm up. Many complained that the water temperature of four Celsius degrees (39 degrees Fahrenheit) was too high however. They were waiting for the real winter and temperatures minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) and lower.
