Host: Should I purchase a crate when adopting a dog? Kevin Simpson: By purchasing a crate ahead of time that we better prepare to handle unexpected behavioral problems such as chewing, destructive behavior or even aid in the dog’s house training. That said, not all dogs come home from an animal shelter already trained to the crate. In fact, lot of the dogs will be fearful in the crate. They have panic attacks or escape behaviors that in fact could hurt the dog. And other instances, you may find that simply building or constructing an x-pan or providing a gate in some instances to keep a dog partitioned off to a certain quarter of the home maybe the better route to go but it’s always s a good idea to be prepared and have those tools handy when necessary.
