PSV LEAD 5-1 STORY: Two goals from Georginio Wijnaldum helped PSV Eindhoven crush Heracles 5-1 on Saturday (January 26) to go top of the Dutch Eredivise. Victory on a cold night in Almelo sees Dick Advocaat's side take over from FC Twente at the top of the table with 43 points from 20 matches, two ahead of Twente who play on Sunday. Tim Matavz opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, a long ball from by Kevin Strootman was superbly controlled by the Slovenian striker who was given too much room by Heracles defender Bart Schenkeveld and had a simple job to fire past Remko Pasveer. PSV continued to dominate the game and added to their lead in the 35th minute, Dries Mertens setting up Jeremain Lens who got in behind the Heracles defence and slotted the ball home. Everton pulled a goal back for the home side in the 62nd minute when he latched onto a ball in the PSV penalty area and lashed it into the roof of the net, but any hope of a recovery was extinguished four minutes later when Georginio Wijnaldum collected Strootman's pass, went around Pasveer and scored from the narrowest of angles to restore PSV's two goal lead. Mertens added a fourth in the 72nd minute, the Belgian being allowed to run through the Heracles defence before finishing from close range. More bad defending from Heracles allowed Wijnaldum to score his second of the night in the 76th minute, the forward heading in from a rebound after a Pasveer save from Lens after he had been allowed to run through the centre of the defence.
