I can still remember the first I came across Calibrachoa. I was completely enchanted by the tiny bell shaped blooms. The flower is a light plum with a dark purple veining and a yellow throat that resembles little tiny petunias. Superbells are disease tolerant, self cleaning and have a self branching form. For gardeners, this means the low growing compact plant with stay vigorous and bloom profusely. You see, there is no need for dead heading and it doesn’t need to be pinched back to keep it from becoming wedgy.
You see, superbells don’t have a sticky like foliage that can mat together after it rains. They park right up. Calibrachoa is especially suited for containers because it prefers a soil that’s a little on the dry side and doesn’t need much fertilizer to bloom continuously. This makes it a must have for busy gardeners who want plants that aren’t fuzzy. Even when stressed, they remain compact and bushy and they also attract hummingbirds.
