Host: What can I do to prepare my home when I adopt a new dog? Kevin Simpson: You can prepare your home by first determining where exactly you're going to allow your dog to live, think about where your dog is going to eat, sleep, play. And the general rule of thumb is to limit that area to one small section of the house. You can use baby gates as one example to kind of corner off maybe a kitchen area or a hallway and then over time, allowing the dog create their access to more and more rooms throughout the house. That also helps protect your furniture and your personal belongings from destructive behavior or any swelling while the dogs still acclimating to not only his surroundings but also to your routine.
