There are possible signs of life in Antarctica Lake. Possible signs of life have been found in the depths of a subglacial lake in Antarctica. Scientists have drilled half a mile beneath the surface, into a hidden Antarctic lake known as Lake Whillans, to collect water samples. They have discovered microbes that could be “the first evidence of life in an Antarctic subglacial lake," according to science journalist Douglas Fox, who is embedded with the scientists at Lake Whillans. The scientists still have to test the microbes to see if they are really alive and able to grow in a culture, but also to be certain that they aren’t just contaminations that were brought to the lake by the drilling itself. A team of Russian scientists drilled to a deeper and larger subglacial lake, known as Lake Vostok in Antarctica last year. They have been drilling at this location since 1998.They found microbes in their ice sample, which they found had come from the equipment they used to drill down to the lake. Their drills were designed not to contaminate the lake water, which has been untouched in the same place for tens of millions of years. What do you think?
