It took time to set in, but the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado took its toll on those whose work put them close to the tragedy. Bay News 9 notes:

“Chief Oates was emotional as he described what his officers are going through.”

During the second press conference of the day, Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates choked up when talking about the scene at the theater, noting the cops went through a lot.

“They rushed people out of that theater into police cars. I've heard some compelling stories.”

Chief Oates went on to say law enforcement is working on how to deal with their own trauma. Colorado’s governor was noticeably affected, yet stoic, during the press conference. Governor Hickenlooper described the shooting as “an act that defies description.”

"Everyone I've talked to all day is filled with an anger that can't find focus.”

Hickenlooper also asked people to give a round of applause to the Aurora Police Department and Police Chief to applaud them for the hard work thus far. Sky News reports an emergency doctor credited the police for bringing victims to the hospital in police cars.

"The police officers did a wonderful job and probably saved some lives by bringing patients immediately.”
