Audra: She’s graced the pages of the Sports Illustrated, she’s been on a hit TV show and she’s always at the forefront when it comes to fashion. The ever fabulous Molly Sims introduced Lauren to two up and coming designers that are all about plastics. This should be interesting.
Lauren: I am so excited because today I’m going to talk fashion with Molly Sims, fabulous Molly Sims and the two designers of West, this hot designing duo, Daniel and Wesley.
Molly: These guys are incredible. They won an amazing national competition sponsored by Genard and they had to create the entire collection made of plastic. and a lot of people don’t realize we think of plastic is different, like we have the skinny jeans because of plastic. We have the sequins, we have the shoulder pads. You know, if not, were still wearing corsets. so it’s amazing what new and upcoming designers will do with our you know where, I think designers had it for the future, right.
Daniel: Definitely.
Lauren: So what is some of the trends that you see? Skinny jeans, you just mentioned skinny jeans, you think they’re still going to be in?
Molly: Yeah.
Daniel: Oh we hope so.
Lauren: Coz their sexy
Molly: More structure, more stretch like you know like even this gown like more light weight but more wearable. But you think it’s more comfortable, don’t you think?
Daniel: Absolutely.
Lauren: Well you can move in it. I mean I’m wearing jeans today and I think I have little plastic in here coz I have to like wander around, you know, sit, pick things up, chit-chat with celebrities, whatever.
Molly: It’s crazy you know that you know I was just asking them like when you create your line. And then you see it and then it goes down the runway. People always ask like, well how did it get to me? Like for them it’s like they start out with nature and colors and a theme and then this is we know what’s the end product. And once it gets to the actual stores, it could be the weight of it the color of it just the top of it.
Lauren: Well people always ask you, when you see a runways show it’s like how can I wear that? Well I think they don’t understand is like you have to dissect the whole entire look. Take away the earrings the shoes whatever and you can, an average woman can wear just a beautiful dress. Do you guys not agree?
Daniel: Absolutely. Yeah, I mean I think on the runway it’s definitely the collage of the designer’s inspiration especially for these edgier pieces. and once it is dissected, you could say ok I want the shirt underneath the crazy coat.
Lauren: You, you make it your own style.
Daniel: Absolutely.
Lauren: So you two were on Project Runway.
Molly: They were in a maze
Lauren: That were pitted against each other. So now how did you come together to create a line?
Daniel: Well, we realized that we share similar aesthetic. and we constantly have been really excited about nature and all that. We made a jacket, not for this collection but we were playing around with actually these jewel beetle wings which are just stunning.
Molly: Their work is like art. I mean.
Lauren: Well hello?
Molly: I know.
Lauren: I love these shoes. I would totally wear these shoes. These are crazy. These are like hand carved right?
Daniel: The barnacles, yeah.
Lauren: Barnacles. So you can actually go fishing while you wear them, too. I love that. Well I want to thank you guys for chit-chatting with me. I’m Lauren Ezersky for Better!
