PETA speaks out against naked chickens displays. PETA is never the one to shy away from controversy. Recently, the US based animal welfare group stirred another debate. The president of PETA spoke out, criticizing a magazine for its advertisements of a raw chicken, bred in captivity that was ready to roast. A PETA spokesperson further claimed that seeing raw, plucked chickens in grocery stores was ‘disgusting’ and they should not be placed on display for customers to see. She stated “Sexily displaying the corpse of a chicken who has been bred to grow so big, so quickly, that many collapse under their own weight, is just additionally offensive.” Last year, PETA publicly opposed the pardoning of the Thanksgiving turkey by President Obama. For over twenty years, a turkey has been officially pardoned by the President each Thanksgiving. A PETA spokesperson stated that the event “makes light of the mass slaughter of some 46 million gentle, intelligent birds and portrays the United States' president as being in some sort of business partnership with the turkey-killing industry."
