Paltrow Spills Iron Man Secrets
Male: Ironman is Robert Downey Jr. He does such a great job here but he’s get a little bit older, are there moments on set when you know this boy, he is feeling it today, this is a tough day for him?
Gwyneth Paltrow: No, not really, you know he takes such good care of himself and he has all—he has this—oh God, he gets so mad at me when I pronounce this like martial arts thing the wrong way, but he does his martial arts and his yoga, and all of his holistic stuff and he keeps himself in pretty good shape.
Male: What I love about the franchise now compared to other superhero film is that Tony Stark identity is revealed that he is Ironman. You don’t have that in any other superhero movies, so how does that come into play?
Gwyneth Paltrow: Well I think that it’s very Tony Stark isn’t it to admit that he is Ironman and sort of take that fold in that alter ego and it was a clever choice to make because of what you say that, you know, it’s not the standard choice, it’s usually about the secret identity.
Male: When I think if this franchise and what keeps it all together of course, I think of John Favreau and I love how he’s on screen more.
Gwyneth Paltrow: Yeah.
Male: Was that part of the deal?
Gwyneth Paltrow: You know what, it’s almost like if you have him directing and not in it so much, in the first one it’s like we’re wasting these great resource, you know, we’re got John Favreau, I mean I think he’s one of the funniest actors.
Male: This is the first time you’ve reprise a character o screen.
Gwyneth Paltrow: That’s right.
Male: Is that a different experience for you?
Gwyneth Paltrow: No actually, I was thinking it would be weird to go back and it was sort of like, it just felt like groundhog day in a way that we were just all back together. The nice thing was the new people, you know it’s nice to have a girl on set.
I mean I love all the boys, don’t get me wrong but it was nice to have a girl there because last time, it was just boys everywhere and Scarlet is like really funny in a reverend and we both love to cook and eat and—so it was just nice to have a girl there to kind of hang out with. It was great to have Mickey Rourke there, to scare my children.
Male: Really, how can he make scare the kids. Just the sight of him alone was frightening for the little ones?
Gwyneth Paltrow: Yes and that whole get up with his hair and his whips and whatever they were.
Male: I’m really glad to hear that you say that you loved having Scarlet on set and how much fun you have working with her because I remember there were several rumors that came out and you guys started saying that you didn’t get along.
Gwyneth Paltrow: I know.
Male: And it’s just because it’s actresses together. Men don’t have to deal with that.
Gwyneth Paltrow: You know what I think, I think that people have so much space to fill every day. That they have to make things up because you know, they got to write something so…
Male: That’s where they come from.
Gwyneth Paltrow: Yup.
Male: Well luckily, they can write about a really cool summer movie because this thing rocks.
