(Image source: Bloomberg )   BY ZACH TOOMBS   It’s fair to say lawmakers are a little high-strung about automatic spending cuts known as “the sequester.” Take House Speaker John Boehner Tuesday morning.   “We have moved a bill in the House twice. We should not have to move a third bill before the Senate gets off their ass and begins to do something.” [Video: CBS ]   The Speaker does have a gift for what you might call “straight talk.”   Last month we learned that during the infamous fiscal cliff talks — he told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to go f--- himself after Reid called Boehner a dictator on the Senate floor.   Name calling aside, the U.S. will see $85 billion in immediate cuts without action from Congress by Friday. And after a week of dire warnings from the Obama administration about the effect of cuts, the government made a controversial cost cutting move Tuesday.   In a decision The New York Times called “highly unusual,” Homeland Security released hundreds of detainees in Arizona who had crossed the U.S. border illegally — blaming budget cuts. [Video: France 24 ]   In response, Republican Rep. Robert Goodlatte says: “It’s abhorrent that President Obama is releasing criminals into our communities to promote his political agenda on sequestration … the administration is needlessly endangering American lives.”   Homeland Security wouldn’t say how they selected illegal immigrants for release — just that they’re holding on to those convicted of “serious crimes” — and that they might have to release as many as 10,000 if sequester does hit.   Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano spoke shortly before the decision was announced.   “There’s only so much I can do. I’m supposed to have 34,000 detention beds for immigration. How do I pay for those?” [Video: C-Span ]   Congress appears no closer to compromise than they were a week ago, or a even month ago — or really even a year and a half ago when the sequester was put in place. Democrats say any debt reduction deal must include new revenue. House Republicans call that option off the table.
