President Obama's re-election campaign has released its new 2012 campaign slogan: "Forward."  The slogan was revealed in a seven minute YouTube video , which focuses on the president's achievements in office.

"This is a make or break moment for the middle class, and for all those who are fighting to get into the middle class...I believe that this country succeeds when everyone gets  a fair shot."

USA Today has the Obama campaign’s official statement which says...

"The video outlines the challenges America faced as President Obama took office at the height of the worst recession in almost a century and details the progress that has been made reclaiming the security of the middle class and building an economy that's meant to last, where hard work pays and responsibility is rewarded."

The video also highlights the struggles the president has faced trying to get legislation through a Republican Congress.   The Chicago Sun Times notes .

“Obama had to overcome GOP obstruction on Capitol Hill in order to pass legislation ... The video tries to make the case for Obama’s re-election by saying there is still more work to do going forward.”

The Republican Party didn’t hesitate to use the video to attack the president’s policies, saying the only thing Americans can look forward to under President Obama is a higher deficit and more taxes.   CBS News has their take.

“The Republican National Committee seized on the video to slam Mr. Obama's record on the economy, creating the nationally-trending Twitter hashtag #Forward." The RNC used the hashtag to tweet messages like, ‘Under Obama's budget, Americans can look #FORWARD to $1.9 trillion in higher taxes."

The new slogan is also being criticized for resembling MSNBC’s “Lean Forward” slogan.   Politico notes Obama’s campaign has already gone through a number of slogans.

“It's part of the ongoing struggle for the Obama campaign to try to find a slogan that will stick ... The Obama campaign has jumped from slogan to slogan since mostly abandoning ‘win the future’ last year...”

The new video and slogan will be formally presented this month to supporters who attend the president’s first 2012 re-election rallies in Ohio and Virginia.
