(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) China's relatively moderate response to North Korea's widely condemned nuclear test -- expressing "firm opposition", but falling short of mentioning any reprisals or sanctions -- has caused A widespread outcry among Chinese netizens. Chinese social media users lashed out at Chinese authorities for the response, calling it a "humiliation to Beijing". A group of eight protesters went one step further by taking to the streets of Guangzhou in southern China on Saturday (February 16) to protest Pyongyang's nuclear test and China's inability to stop it. Amateur video filmed by one of the protesters, Liu Yuandong, showed the group marching towards a local square while carrying placards that read "Fatty Kim Jong-un, you are looking for trouble by setting off an explosion right at our door", "We want peace, not nuclear weapons" and "North Korea develops nuclear, China suffers" before being stopped and dispersed by the police. Reuters cannot independently verify the authenticity of the video. Five of the protesters were taken away by the police for questioning, and all were released two hours later, according to Liu. North Korea conducted its third nuclear test on February 12, in defiance of U.N. resolutions, pushing it further along the path of developing a workable long-range nuclear missile, drawing condemnation from around the world. Analysts said the test was a major embarrassment to China, which is a permanent member of the Security Council and North Korea's sole major economic and diplomatic ally.
