But details are limited. WTTG explains . “In North Korea today the communist nation announced it has detained an American citizen. He supposedly confessed to committing crimes, but North Korea isn't saying what they are.” The Korean Central News Agency says Pan Jun Ho entered the country as a tourist last month. The New York Times reports human rights activists believe the man is Kenneth Bae, who was detained earlier this month. In a report the Korean Central News Agency says... “In the process of investigation evidence proving that he committed a crime against the DPRK was revealed. He admitted his crime.” WJXT says the U.S.’s lack of diplomatic relations in North Korea calls for third-party help. “Right now the Swedish ambassador to North Korea is in the country representing the U.S. So far, he has not been able to comment on this.” According to the BBC , the American citizen operated a travel company — and went to North Korea guiding a group of tourists. The New York Times explains this charge comes at a sensitive time for the U.S. and North Korea. Tensions between the two countries have grown following a recent North Korean long-range rocket test.
