(Image Source: The Capital-Journal )     BY CANDICE AVILES   A non-profit organization protested the Westboro Baptist Church in a way no other group has done before — by painting a house across the street from the church the colors of the rainbow.   “Planting Peace sponsored this project, the rainbow colored painting of a home they’ve dubbed the ‘equality house.’ It symbolized equality, peace, and change, they say, — now sporting the colors of the gay pride flag.”  (Via WIBW )   The Westboro Baptist Church is known for its extreme anti-gay message and for protesting the funerals of fallen soldiers. The church has been called a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. (Via CNN ) The man behind the Equality House, Aaron Jackson, is the president and founder of Planting Peace. According to Gawker he was inspired by 9-year-old “Josef Miles...[who had] photobombed one of the Westboro protests with a handmade sign that read ‘God Hates No One.’”   That’s when Jackson had an “aha” moment on how to challenge Westboro’s message. He hopes the home will help others see that there isn’t anything wrong with homosexuals. (Via New York Daily News )   While the rainbow house is a first, other groups have counter-protested the Westboro Baptist Church in creative ways.   At the funeral of a Newtown, Connecticut shooting victim, people protested the group by forming a human wall. Motorcyclists also lined up blocking the group. (Via The Huffington Post )   Westboro Baptist Church responded to its new rainbow-colored neighbor via Twitter saying, “@someecards: House across from Westboro Baptist Church painted to look like giant gay pride flag. Ours is prettier.”   Jackson reportedly purchased the house for about $83,000. He hired professional painters for the rainbow paint job because he didn’t want neighbors to be upset over a poorly painted home.
