Naturopathic Home Care
Audra Lowe: When you think of pampering your self most people think about sitting in a luxurious spa, right. That’s the person that first when it comes to mind. Well, Better’s Trend expert Jenn Falik shows how you can actually get that heavenly spa experience right at home is all in today’s Savvy Shopper
Jenn Falik: I'm here at the Great Jones spa with Barbara Close. She’s an herbalist, she’s a well-being adviser and she is the founder of Naturopathica, which is an amazing line for body spa, that skin care you got all these healing treatments. She is going to tell us a little bit about how you can make your bath or different rituals you do at home into healing therapeutic experiences because you know a lot of people don’t want to spend lot money on a whole spa treatment all the time.
Barbara Close: Right.
Jenn Falik: You don’t have time to go to spa, but you are telling me that you can make your bath into a spa treatment.
Barbara Close: Well at Naturopathica Spa, we believe that beauty is more than pampering or topical corrective treatments. We believe in a better beauty, which is using the century’s old tradition of natural healing to create optimum well being. So what I want to talk you about today was bath cures and using the ancient Naturopathica cure of hydrotherapy.
Jenn Falik: Okay.
Barbara Close: And this is one of the oldest naturopathic treatments and it is really quite effective. It’s based on two principles which is using the temperature of water and the duration you stay on the water to move the blood around the body which has a cleansing effect.
Jenn Falik: And how long is the ideal bath?
Barbara Close: Well, it depends what type of bath we are going to do. So the first bath care I want to talk about was our lavender bath cure.
Jenn Falik: Okay.
Barbara Close: Which is your classic nighttime relaxing bath that everybody knows about?
Jenn Falik: And how much lavender do you put in?
Barbara Close: You know get a lavender essence oil you can get it at any healthy store.
Jenn Falik: Okay.
Barbara Close: And if you want to mix it in a base some like almond oil, select one ounce of the base and then add just five or six drops to your bath, swish the water around and get it in soap.
Jenn Falik: And how about the bath, I'm predicting the return of the bath. And tell me we have some shower cure as well. So I want to hear a little bit about that.
Barbara Close: Shower treatments are great to do, we call that a contrast bath and this is great for those of you that might be athletes and they have sore muscles you done the spinning class and you think you are going to be really sore the next day.
Jenn Falik: Yeah.
Barbara Close: What you want to do is you want to get in the shower turn the water as hot as you can for about 15 seconds then cold for five seconds, then hot again for 15 and then cold. Now I would combine this with plain extracts like rosemary totally get the rid of soreness. You won’t be sore the next day.
Jenn Falik: I love that. That’s so great, so easy then you have no excuse to not work out.
Barbara Close: The following day.
Jenn Falik: I know, oh, there goes all my excuses.
Barbara Close: Exactly. What I wanted to show you is another form of hydrotherapy that I think it is really great for different types of stress related complaints. So one remedy that I want to show is the use of compresses for sore muscles.
Jenn Falik: Okay.
Barbara Close: For example if you're worn out and you have a pull hand sprain, you can just take a little bit of arnica oil and use essential oils like rosemary or bay laurel, soak your wash cloth and just wring it out, just apply to the affected area until it gets room temperature. And what I do is just make a couple of this ahead of time and throw them in the freezer and you got them now.
Jenn Falik: That’s such a great tip, so much better for you than some of the over-the-counter medications. I'm sure that people rely on those situation.
Barbara Close: That’s why we call it a better beauty.
Jenn Falik: A better beauty well certainly is a better beauty and thank you so much. And if you would like to learn more about this different bath chores, the information all upon the naturopathica website at www.naturopathica.com.
