Natural and Industrial Kitchen
Color Splash with David Bromstad
David: There we are.
David: How are you?
David: This is a cool kitchen. Tell me what you love and what you hate about it?
Patty: I absolutely love like industrial natural stuff obviously it’s a law so I have concrete floors. I don’t like the pink and gray granite counters. I have a very dear friend who works with concrete.
Patty: Yes and he has offered to come in and do my counters for me.
Patty: I think what he knows and your design. It would just be phenomenal. I love my appliances I could use some improvement with my block here.
David: Bigger, smaller.
Patty: I would like it bigger.
David: You have the room to go far out here, huge island, more spaces for entertaining, more spaces for everything.
Patty: I would like things to be a little bit more permanent.
David: Right so make it look like an installed kitchen because right now it looks like a kitchen that has been pieced together.
David: Here and there over time and that’s not the look we want to go for.
Patty: I know.
David: As far as style like cabinets do we like traditional or do we like more modern.
Patty: I don’t like traditional at all. I love the frost glass.
David: You want to stick with your old mutual colors or.
Patty: I’m pretty much like I love deep rich colors you know red.
David: Are we tackling this area over here as well?
Patty: We are because I think it actually you know it’s part of the kitchen.
David: My first impression of Patty’s kitchen/lobby is fantastic. I love the architectural details, the great high ceilings that’s sloped on one side but the kitchen itself looks like a mismatch of cabinets that were collected over time and then shoved on the wall.
First thing I know for sure is that we want to rip out the cabinet start completely fresh and do a nice clean bank of cabinets to go all the way from the refrigerator to the door. One other request that Patty made was that she wanted wood cabinets but I want to give her another option and I know that she loves, loves red and what’s more fitting for a kitchen or dining space than red. It stimulates appetite, it stimulates conversation and it’s just one hot color.
What I want to do is clean up the space and I want to make it very simple and I want it really look loft like and way to do that is to paint everything white.
What are you expecting?
Patty: I’m expecting awesome, amazing you in the kitchen.
David: I’ll be there. Check it out.
Patty: Oh my God this is hot.
David: The concrete countertops are fantastic.
Patty: Nick is off the hook.
David: Nick is off the hook and the island it’s fantastic look at the great shape that he did.
Patty: I said I wasn’t going to cry but I love it. I got my table.
David: Of course.
Patty: Okay I know I have nice lips but did you have to paint them that big on the walls.
David: Yes I did honey. Yes I did. Honey, yes I did.
Patty: The light fixtures. What the hell those look like my old cabinets?
David: It’s exactly what they are.
Patty: The back splash. It adds a little sparkle.
David: It’s feminine reflects a ton of light that really goes well with those frosted glass cabinets. Danielle did such a great job on those cabinets they used to be she painted with a high locker gloss which gives it a really rich feel.
