Host: Does what you wear make a difference at a musical audition? Jennifer Rutherford: Well, there’s tasteful and there’s not so tasteful. I’ve seen some American Idol contestants for instance wear things that show their midriff. I don’t think that’s a good idea at all. I think you really ought to dress just simply, tastefully, within your age group, not too fancy. I mean you know, you’re not a star yet. The stylist at a contest like that would make you into whatever you’re going to be anyway. So unless you have a particular artistic style that you really want to demonstrate, I would just say wear a cute T-shirt and some jeans and may be some not too high-heeled shoes because that affects your breath support. If you wear a high heel, it’s really kind of hard to do some of the abdominal lifts that you need to do to sing properly. So just keep it cute, simple, age appropriate, and if you have a particular style, go for that. That's what I’d suggest.
