Host: Should I take water with me to an audition? Jennifer Rutherford: Sure, take water with you to the audition. But it’s really a good idea to drink it a few days ahead of time, make sure you’re well hydrated, that is you’re drinking water all the time. It’s good for your skin anyway, so you should be drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day on a regular basis. If you drink water at the last minute, it actually might make you even feel thirstier because if your body is not used to it, it just stores it away and then it wants more. So it’s a good idea to keep hydrated on a regular basis. The vocal chords, the vocal folds really have no other source of lubrication other than water, so it’s really important to keep them hydrated in order for them to be healthy.
