AJ Vickery: Today, we’re going to take a look a retail solution for your business and not just big business but even small businesses that allows you to keep track not only of what you’re selling but who you’re selling too. And to help to understand further we’re joined by Paul Birkness from Moneris. Hi!
Paul Birkness: Hi AJ.
AJ Vickery: Thanks for coming in.
Paul Birkness: Thank you.
AJ Vickery: So, tell us about your system?
Paul Birkness: Sure. Our systems called Morris. It’s a retail solution, and it’s a software, a service which means it runs off our servers rather than being installed on a computer.
AJ Vickery: And we’re starting to see that more and more now. Businesses are actually looking at rather than paying upfront for big software and like most big retailers do, renting it on a monthly basis. So how do they use it? They don’t install anything? They just connect to the internet?
Paul Birkness: All they need is a high speed internet connection in a Web Browser and they can get up in running quick and easily.
AJ Vickery: So tell us about some the features of your system.
Paul Birkness: Sure! It’s got an inventory management solution. It allows you to process transaction at point of sale. It also has customer management. It’s a fairly robust recording capability and integrated things.
AJ Vickery: Well, I’m actually interested in that because for inventory especially if you’re somebody that wants to open up say a clothing shop or something and you want to keep track of – it kind of what you’re selling and when to reorder a typical cash register, isn’t going to help you at all.
Paul Birkness: That’s right.
AJ Vickery: That so that the inventory every month. This system is more revised from now.
Paul Birkness: That’s right, Well with the system you can track what are your top selling items, what are your low selling items. You can see when you’re getting low. You can print a low stock report so you can see what inventory needs to be re-ordered.
AJ Vickery: And the idea is you can set kind of going to a reporting area?
Paul Birkness: That’s right.
AJ Vickery: Okay, cool. So you talk about customer management. Tell me bit more about that.
Paul Birkness: So, the system allows you to track your customers. You can see what there sales history is. You can setup special pricing for those customers as well.
AJ Vickery: Wow, so if someone had come in and they bought a shirt from you before you could actually say “hey, how that shirt fitting you?”
Paul Birkness: Exactly.
AJ Vickery: All right, takes it to another level. What else can it do?
Paul Birkness: It also got the ability to setup promotions or sales so you can setup certain inventory items or all of your inventory. Allow you to put in a start date and a finish for that sale.
AJ Vickery: That’s a lot more powerful than the traditional cash registration?
Paul Birkness: Exactly.
AJ Vickery: So, I see that you also brought a system with you today. What do we got here?
Paul Birkness: So this is one of our optional hardware bundles. You can have your PC and monitor. We’ve also added cash drawer, a receipt printer and a scanner for the point sale.
AJ Vickery: So the idea here is pretty much everything you need to have a small retail business?
Paul Birkness: Yup.
AJ Vickery: And I notice that you have a little keypad as well so people could choose to pay by credit card or bankcard if they want it too.
Paul Birkness: That’s right. That’s a Moneris pin pad and the nice thing about that is it’s fully integrated so you only have to scan things one time. You don’t have re-entry into a separate terminal.
AJ Vickery: Because of the regular cash register you’d actually have to punch through that system and then also punch it through here. So if a business wants to sort of get away from the traditional cash register or even if they’re going to the business for the first time. How would they get started with something like this?
