Could it be a Romney redo?

The presumptive GOP nominee leaves London behind after taking a bit of a beating in the British press. Next stop for Mr. Romney, says MSNBC, is Israel — where he potentially has a date with a do-over .

“Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, boarded a plane to Israel this morning, ending his trip to the United Kingdom. While in Israel, the former governor will be meeting with Mideast leaders, including longtime friend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”

What’s the Romney camp’s plan during this visit? WPLG shares some scenarios .

“Experts are saying the stop in the country could possibly be aimed at getting more votes from Jewish Americans. But others speculate he could be trying to impress evangelicals who tend to side with Israel.”

According to Scott Conroy with Real Clear Politics, Romney says America’s relationship with Israel has deteriorated in recent years . And that’s …

“ … a focal point of his criticism of President Obama’s foreign policy. The Romney campaign has noted repeatedly that Obama has not visited Israel as president, and a series of photo-ops and meetings with top leaders there on Sunday will offer the Republican candidate a chance to demonstrate a personal connection to the country.”

Both campaigns are battling for the support of Jewish voters. A writer for The Hill calls that group a key demographic in many swing states . He writes …

“Gallup, however, says it is unlikely Romney will see much of a boost from Jewish voters in the polls due to his Israel trip ‘given the strong support Jewish voters have shown for Obama and the fact that Republicans, who are generally more pro-Israel, already overwhelmingly support Romney.’”

Politico’s Maggie Haberman reports — some Republicans hope Romney can reach Ronald Reagan’s high mark with Jewish voters at 39 percent.
