A running legend is found dead at 58. KOAT reports.

Officials confirm Micah True of Colorado who went missing after going for a 12-mile run, was found dead yesterday. The Colorado man was an avid runner and was featured in the book "Born to Run."

True was the central character in the best-seller “Born to Run,” in which he learned how to run extreme distances in the desert from Tarahumara Indians. Authorities had been searching for the famous ultra-miler for four days, and found him in  a remote part of New Mexico’s Gila Wilderness area, where he’d been running. KRQE reports he was found ...

“...about seven miles from the Gila's visitor's center. Authorities say there are no obvious signs of trauma. Crews are hoping to get the body out of the wilderness this morning, after they come up with a plan. they say the rough terrain will make that difficult.”

As Good Morning America reports, the loss hurts for extreme distance runners.

“True, 58, was a legend in the distance running community. …  he was the race director of the Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon, a 50-mile race across the desert.”

And Mike Sandrock, a running columnist for the Daily Camera in his hometown Boulder, Camera says of True’s death --

"Rationally it's understandable, because when you go off into the wilderness things happen," he said. "But on a gut level I'm surprised. We all thought Micah was indestructible. That he would always be running. Caballo Blanco, running shirtless through the desert."
