Hey guys, welcome back to Dede’s Mediterranean Kitchen. Today, I am going to be making a really quick and easy dish. It's potatoes with meat with a really simple version. If you are hungry, you're not in the mood for a salad, you just want something substantial, that can feel you up, it's easy, kids love it, because there are no vegetables, just potatoes and meat, it's really good. Now, we are going to need some potatoes. I like the russet potatoes. I have some chopped onions. I have a pound of ground beef. I like to use the really lean ground beef. It only has 5% fat. If you like it more fatty and you can get it more fatty. If you like to use lamb, you can use lamb as well. I have some cumin and cinnamon, a little bit of olive oil, salt and pepper and that’s all you need. We’re going to put these together.
I have a large pot and I have it on medium high heat. We are also going to want to lit with this. I am going to use three tablespoons of olive oil. Now, remember you can use olive oil as often as you can; extra virgin olive oil because that is the healthiest fat that you can possibly use while you are cooking.
We are going to brown the beef for about five minutes until it is all nice and brown. If the beef is browned, I am going to add one teaspoon of salt, stir it up, and I am going to add our onions and I'm going to let that cook for another five minutes. It is still our meat had browned and the onions are translucent, I am going to add another three tablespoons of olive oil. And then, I want to add the potatoes. I cut them into nice cubes. See that? They are nice-sized cubes. Toss them in and add another teaspoon salt, just a little salt, and a little bit of back pepper. Fresh black pepper, if you can. It's always better to use fresh black pepper. I am going to toss this out and make sure everything is mixed evenly.
You know, my mom used to always make this for us whenever she was in a hurry as she did not have time to you know, cook a three-course meal.. She would make this for us and we would it with Kieser bread and we would it with yogurt, salad and you can wrap it up in a sandwich. It is a really easy meal. So, I have these all mixed up, I am going to turn the heat down to medium low and I am going to cover it and then I want to cook it for about 30 minutes. But you want to check on it after 15 minutes, give it a slight toss and then cover it again, cook it for another 15 minutes. After that, check the potato to make sure that the potatoes are cooked and tender. Then you want to turn it off, let it sit for about 10 minutes and then serve it.
The potatoes are done cooking. I am going to serve it up in a nice plate. I have my yogurt plated out. You can also serve this with sadiki sauce, you can serve it with a cucumber and tomato salad with some mint, olive oil, lemon juice, or you can just serve it with some Greek yogurt that I have here. You can roll that up in a Keto pocket; you can roll it up in a tortilla. I mean really whatever you like. You just set that and might yet see what this looks like with that. It is a nice wonderful combination. I wanted to sprinkle a little bit of cumin on top. Just a little bit, a little bit of cinnamon, you don’t want to overpower the flavors, I mean just a dash. Just like that. Serve it with the yogurt. I want to give it a taste.
The yogurt is cool. The potatoes are hot. So it tastes good together. Hmmm… the potatoes are perfectly done. They’re not overcooked. They’re not mushy. Hmmm… I appreciate it with a lot of the yogurt.
