A creative artists chooses tiny, matchbook surfaces to serve as a canvas for vintage artworks.

Some artists chose huge, sprawling canvases for their artwork.

Others go for smaller surfaces. Jason D'Aquino is one of them, opting to use matchbooks for his illustrations. Described as a miniaturist, he works on an extremely small scale, as he usually favors surfaces with dimensions less than a square inch.

The artwork is shown on the upper half, while the matches rest on the bottom. Some of his illustrations include strikingly accurate illustrations of Marilyn Monroe, King Tut, Buffalo Bill, Abraham Lincoln, Willy Wonka and Young Frankenstein.

Each drawing is thoroughly detailed, no hair or wrinkle left out, which is an amazing accomplishment considering the minuscule canvas. There are also other artistic images including guns, motorcycles, watches, dragons, skeletons, monsters and soldiers.

There is a nostalgic, antiquated theme that shows in both the artworks and canvases. How do you like Jason's work?
