This cocktail is called the Martinez. The Martinez is the father of the martini invented by Jerry Thomas who was a famous San Francisco bartender back in the late 1800s. It's a mixture of gin, dry vermouth, maraschino liqueur, orange bitters garnished with a lemon twist and an olive. So we’re going to make the Martinez.
I'm going to take gin and dry vermouth and do about a 2:1 ratio to one part dry vermouth and add in just a touch of maraschino liqueur, about ¼ ounce and about two good dashes of orange bitters. Give that a stir. Contrary to James Bond, martini should never be shaken. Always, always stir it.
Take my chilled cocktail glass and I'm going to add a single olive and a lemon twist for garnish. Now it's important to get the lemon directly over the drink so you can get all of the oils of the lemon directly on to the cocktail. Rub the outside of the glass with the lemon twist. The Martinez.
