Manufacturing of the New Toyota Auris Hybrid

Tony Walker: The Auris Hybrid is extremely important for Toyota
Manufacturing UK. It's the first hybrid powertrain in a mainstream
C-Class car in Europe from any maker. We are already making the
Avensis and the Auris hatchback. We are going to a one line
system from this summer and all three models will be built on the
same line with the same attention to quality and with the same
attention to the finished product and the costumer.

Marvin Cooke: The great thing is for the driver, you drive it just the same as any
other vehicle that computer onboard makes thousands of decisions
every second. So, you don’t have to do anything differently.
Seamlessly, there is transition between electric motor or the power
of the petrol engine or both of them at the same time. So, for the
driver, nothing really changes. Probably you just fill up the tank a
lot less often.

Tony Walker: The Auris Hybrid is providing a car which is kind to the
environment and in that sense is in vital part of the move to a low
carbon economy.

Marvin Cooke: The Prius is selling it three times the rate this year than it was last
year. So clearly, costumers now want this kind of vehicles and
we’re very well placed and ready to deliver exactly what the
costumers need today. Those are vehicles with higher fuel
efficiency and lower emissions.
