A West Virginia man might want to change the name of the memoir he’s writing: The Kindness of America . Ray Dolin was hitchhiking across the country gathering material to write it when violence broke out. The irony wasn’t lost on KTRK .
 

“In a very unkindly act he was shot Saturday night while waiting for a ride. Dolin says a man just drove up, shot him and then drove off.”

The drive-by happened in northeast Montana. The Valley County Sheriff tells K RTV ...

“It appears that it’s just an absolute random event. They did not know each other, they did not have a confrontation.”

Sheriff’s deputies later caught the alleged shooter. The Billings Gazette reports Lloyd Danielson...

“...was jailed in Roosevelt County on suspicion of felony assault with a weapon and driving under the influence.”

The New York Daily News says ...

“It is unclear whether the shooting will deter Dolin from finishing his book or whether he will merely exclude Montana from his tribute to the United States.”

The New York Daily News also reports doctors expect Dolin to make a full recovery, and Gawker speculates :

“There might be hope for Dolin's book yet: The first person to come to his aid after the shooting was a passing motorist.”
