Maggie Norris Interview

Audra Lowe: Super designer Maggie Norris was a fixture at Ralph Lauren. She
has been on her own for years though and Lauren stopped by her
show room where she got a look at all of Maggie’s latest flash of
elegance.

Lauren Ezersky: I go nowhere without my coffee and my Maggie Norris couture.
Look at this shirt I’m wearing. It’s like unbelievable. This is the
front and this is the back, awesome and there she is. Everything is
very, I don’t want to use the word ‘retro’ but I get a feeling of like
old world glamour. Does that make sense?

Maggie Norris: Oh, absolutely, absolutely because everything we do as you know
sort of has a heritage to it. Every season we've very much inspired
by different themes and our last one, we were inspired by
Napoleon and with this cover buns and he’s tight you know—
skinny tight pants and beautiful jackets.

Lauren Ezersky: Even the buttons. Just the way the buttons are sewn, the button
holes like everything is completely detailed.

Maggie Norris: Yes.

Lauren Ezersky: You're very detail oriented.

Maggie Norris: Yes, definitely.

Lauren Ezersky: I mean look at that.

Maggie Norris: And that’s again some of the inspiration from military and the
other idea too is to mixing the military sensibility with the two
skirts. Part of the dressing to me is mixing in, you know, different
elements together. I think that makes it more interested.

Lauren Ezersky: So Maggie I know you have lot of celebrity clients and here on our
favorite magazine “More” we have Diane Keaton wearing both of
your looks. She’s amazing.

Maggie Norris: She is great, you know, she loves our things and we love seeing
her in it.

Lauren Ezersky: This corset is the corset that Nicole Kidman wore in the Vanity
Fair photo. Does it have her DNA on it, come here Maggie—does
this have her DNA.

Maggie Norris: Yeah, let me look, yes it does.

Lauren Ezersky: It does, it has Nicole’s DNA.

Maggie Norris: Yes, our new trench coat which is also inspired by Napoleon kind
of spirit with this collar.

Lauren Ezersky: I mean look at the detail. I want everybody out there to view this.
Look at it, it has the purple lining and the purple lining on the
button. I mean that is just magnificent.

Maggie Norris: And this coat has about 50 buttons on it, you see inside there’s all
the buttons here, very beautifully labor intensive.

Lauren Ezersky: Look at this bag, it’s amazing. Maggie, I love it.

Maggie Norris: Thank you and is an anti-tassel on it and then inside that was very,
even the lining is very as custom done.

Lauren Ezersky: I could put my lipstick in my MetroCard because I am girl on the
go in New York City. This is a piece of art.

Maggie Norris: Yes.

Lauren Ezersky: I mean this could be in a museum actually. But now you are doing
some ready-to-wear.

Maggie Norris: Well I am known to this ready to wear.

Lauren Ezersky: Which I know your blouse that you have on.

Maggie Norris: And my shirts, we’re doing the shirting collection.

Lauren Ezersky: Look at this shirt. It’s totally gorgeous, the cuffs come on and off
so you can wear it either way and look at that.

Maggie Norris: It’s porcelain.

Lauren Ezersky: Okay.

Maggie Norris: Because we dressed Michelle Obama in one of those shirts.

Lauren Ezersky: What do you think of her? She’s looking really good.

Maggie Norris: Oh, I think she’s wonderful but she will wear one of our shirts and
actually it was the 100-day of their Presidency.

Lauren Ezersky: Well thank you so much Maggie Norris, I love your clothes. Thank
you.
